Tarot Cards

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES - Part 3

This month the Journey continues with cards 15 to 21

devil

XV - The Devil

The devil sits on his throne of power with the man and woman enslaved in chains. He takes here the form of Baphomet, the demon with ram’s horns. The inverted Pentagram is his crown and he commands energy down from the heavens, which he uses to “ignite” the fire in the human’s lower chakras.

Divinatory Meaning   This card is in fact all about the lower chakras. When the Pentagram is upright it represents (amongst many other things) man standing upright. When it is inverted it is, in effect, making the lower chakras sit above the higher chakras. This means that all base “desires” become the leading force in this person’s life. Money and Sex and the usual suspects, although any kind of appetite can be affected. When such things become the focus of our lives, we become enslaved by them – just as the devile is enslaving these two poor unfortunates. This card therefore means that you are “trapped” either by lack of money or by your own selfish desires. When positively aspected, the devil can represent real passion but there is always the tendency to excess with this card. Keep yourself in check.

Tower

XVI - The Tower

The Tower has been hit by lightning. The people fall from the sky in fear . Look closely at the building – the foundations don’t look as though they were laid well do they?

Divinatory Meaning – something has happened, out of the blue, which has shaken the foundations of your world. Everything you thought to be real and solid has been swept away. This is not a good card but it can be used in a very positive way. Your tower fell because the foundations were not solid. Take the opportunity to rebuild your tower now, on a much firmer footing. Learn from the mistakes you have made.

star

XVII - The Star

After the destruction of the tower comes the star of hope. The bright shining stars twinkle in the sky. The maiden pours water on the earth and into the river, signifying balance restored. The card is bright and happy.

Divinatory Meaning -  Fresh hope and renewal.  Healing of old wounds.  Hope. renewal of faith and hope.  Spiritual love.  A mental and physical broadening of horizons. Promise and fulfilment.  inspiration.  Influence over others.  Vigour and confidence.  Protection.

moon

XVII The Moon

The moon card represents the sub-conscious and dreams. It can represent a job where illusion is important (ie acting). It can also represent the psychic side. If there are negative cards around the Moon it can take on a different meaning. The two dogs are howling at the moon, following their instinct – but in doing so they are not seeing the danger of the crayfish as it creeps from the water.

Divinatory Meaning - pay attention to your dreams – keep a journal so that any messages from spirit can be picked up. Maybe you are developing your psychic side – if not, then this can mean that you should be ! Negatively, beware of the unseen or hidden enemies.

sun

XVIII - The Sun

Said to be the best card in the deck. The sun shines brightly, the child rides happily on the horse. The red banner represents energy and fertility. The sunflowers show happiness. All is well.

Divinatory Meaning  - Contentment and happiness on attaining success.  Good Health.  Material happiness. Mental, physical and spiritual vitality.  New inventors or inventions. Academic and particularly scientific success.  Reward.  Acclaim. Approval.  Children.  Abundance of energy. Achievement.  Joy and happiness.

judement

XX - The Judgment

The Angel of Revelations blows his horn on Judgement day. The dead rise from their graves to be judged by the Lord. This is in fact a good card representing rebirth and wiping the slate clean. It can also mean the truth about something is about to be revealed. The red cross represents healing.

Divinatory Meaning  - Changes and improvements.  Satisfactory outcome to a specific matter or period of life.  Joy in accomplishment.  Awakening.  Rebirth.  A good time for career moves. renewed, health, vitality and mental clarity.  Sometimes indicates important pending decisions that will change the pattern of life for  the better.

world

XXI - The World

Neither male nor female, the dancer in the centre holds power in both hands. Perfectly balanced the dancer has achieved spiritual enlightenment. The laurel leaf forms the sacred shape of the circle signifying the end of a cycle and therefore a rebirth. The animals represent the four Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, showing God’s presence.

Divinatory meaning  -  Accomplishment. Fulfillment. Completion of a personal cycle, project, series of events or chapter in life.  Success.  A culmination of events.  A sense of completeness.

That completes our tarot journey in terms of interpretations. Next month we look at spreads and layouts. Have a wonderful July everyone.
