Firstly I’d like to take the opportunity of wishing you all best wishes for the year ahead and whilst we may not always have a smooth ride through life, spend some time to live in the present as it’s the present shapes our futures!
I thought I start the New Year with exploring the development of Mediumship as January always sees the start up of my own development courses that I have been running for the past five years and January is always a time that I see the greater influx of new students wishing to join me. Whilst I don’t have the space to write in any great detail of how to develop Mediumship, I thought I would touch on a few areas that may give you food for thought no matter where you are in your own personal development.
I finished off 2011 with my more advanced students giving their own demonstration of Mediumship in front of a live audience, was I proud of them? Yes I was, because for some it was the rewards of many, many years of hard work, patients and dedication. The feedback from the audience was that they felt that the level of Mediumship was in some instances far better that what they were seeing out there in the some of the spiritualist churches and centres around the UK. For some it was the first time they had ever worked in front of an audience of over 30 people and whilst inwardly they may have been extremely nervous, outwardly it rarely showed.
I remember one student who joined my beginner’s class one term, who had very limited use of their own psychic powers, demanding to know why that after only five weeks of sitting in a development course, why she wasn’t able to do anything and only had mere glimpses of any kind of ability. I repeatedly told her to stay focused and be patient and work hard at it and it will come, it just needs time. But expect it to take many years before you felt fluent in using your psychic abilities. Once the ten week term had finished she didn’t return for the next part saying that she expected, or rather demanded being a better word that she thought that after a couple of weeks of sitting in a development group she would have expected to be able to do what I do perfectly. But it never works like that and her own bar of personal expectation had been set far too high. Try avoiding this very common pit fall, some people expect to open their mouths and those all important words just flow, for some yes, but there are those who have to work a little harder especially when they come into this area late in life.
As I repeatedly remind all of my students, especially when they think they are ready to work professionally after just a few months of training, that if you want to take up teaching others to develop their gifts that it takes a special type of person to be able to teach, especially adults, so do you have the life skills to teach as well as give messages from the after life and guide people through life and most importantly do you have a proven track record in what you do as a medium. I always advice my students especially in the early stages of development, don’t class yourself as a medium just yet, but tell people you have the ability of Mediumship, another pit fall of the initiate is to say to people “I am a medium.” By doing this you create the impression that you are fluent at Mediumship and often what will happen is everyone and their Aunt around you will want you give them messages, the most common being that you are out in some random place and someone who you have only just met comes up to you and says, “So what can you tell me about me then” and will make very high demands that you may not be in a potion to full fill. Again try to avoid this unnecessary pressure.
Another point that is often raised when developing mediumship being, “Are mediums born or made?” Well both! If you believe that we are all spiritual beings within a physical body then the spiritual self remains connected to those realms that we originally come from. This means we all have the ability to heal and to communicate with those who are in the spirit world. Some people are born hypersensitive, these hypersensitive souls have a frequency that resonates to the same frequency as the spirit world allowing them to have constant access, where as the vast majority of people are sensitive to those same frequencies but due to conditioning from child hood and life choices, whilst we may remain intuitive we may loose that ability to hear the spirit world where as others may not.
There are those who come into my development groups who are natural, which means they are hypersensitive and can already hear spirit and have done for most of their lives, whether they are in their 20’s or 50’s, they just may never have used the information that they have been hearing. Then there are those who are open to the spirit world but feel that they don’t have any psychic abilities, it then becomes my job to re educate them. I often say it like this, heaven forbid but for a moment but imagine that you have lost a limb through an accident and the surgeons replace it with a prosthetic limb, well you are going to have to learn and re educate the brain as to how to start using this new limb, well psychic development it going to be a bit like that. Its going to take a lot of hard work and determination and there are going to be many time when you are going to want to give up!!! But for those who don’t give up the future rewards are there for you. I usually say to my new students, give this at least seven weeks before you feel you are making any head way in your development but five years before you are in harmony with the world of spirit.
Those who are more fluent and natural will probably need re educating on how to be more disciplined, learning how to use their abilities more effectively, learning how to switch off from the constant noise and chatter in their heads especially if they wish to work professionally into the future as often it is about learning to interpret the symbolic information being received and learning how to translate it, as well as developing your professional language.
Not every psychic development group or course is going to be right for you and sometimes participants may need to move around a bit in order to find the right one for them. It is also important to remember that in any psychic development group you work as a group but shine as an individual. It can be so easy to sit back and allow others to do the work while you become resentful of the progress they are making. It can be very hard being the new kid on the block by walking into an established development course and many encounter difficulties within that group. Any good teacher will spot this straight away and do what they can to help you fit into the group and become a key component of it. I always say to my students that whilst I don’t expect them all to be the best of friends, yet I do expect them to support one another and if you can’t then possibly you shouldn’t be in my development groups, it can be so easy to judge from the outside looking in.
So who should develop their psychic skills! Well not everyone can and not everyone should. Some people no matter how much they try, they are unable to make any head way at all, they try and try but it just isn’t happening for them. I teach my students the importance of a balance between the psychic development, the emotional self as well as the spiritual needs. All three parts need to flow as one and develop equally, if not they create an imbalance which in turn prevents us from fully mastering the art of Mediumship as we may be able to communicate with other realms but may not have the emotional skills to handle the information that is flowing through you.
I also remind my students that above all, it is important that they look after their own personal well being. Think about it this way, your best friend has just asked you to take place in the London marathon as one of their other friends just dropped out, but the race is next week, would your own common sense allow you to run the race knowing that you will certainly do harm to yourself through lack of training! Well developing your psychic skills amount to the same thing, you abuse your ability and you risk ill health. Take it slowly, there is no rush although you may think that there is.
I hope this has given you some new ideas or refreshed some old ones, but whether your just thinking of starting out on you psychic development or you are in a group as we speak try and remember this, if you don’t speak up then spirit are unable speak through you! I wish you all well for your future development.......
