One of the main focuses of interest for me (if not the main one) in the paranormal field is that of people with claims of psychic ability or mediumship capabilities. In particular I like to work with folk who have alleged raw psychic senses and people not cluttered with all the ‘love and light’ or ‘angels’ and stuff that I usually run a mile from (sorry folks!).

I have been fortunate to have worked with some psychics (a term they usually don’t like) who keep their alleged ability very much to themselves and have no desire for pursuing fame or anything like that and I find that more interesting. Im not one of the ‘it’s all fake’ brigade I should add and if you count the thousands of people (maybe millions) who have this supposed ability around the world, are we saying every single one is suffering a delusion? I don’t think that is the case but I’m also saying (and I must emphasize this) that I don’t know if they speaking to the ‘other side’ either? I have had many readings of people and to be honest, I have only make a connection with about 1% of information given over the years but maybe that’s just me!

On many paranormal investigations I have done either with my team at Spiral or with others, I have sometimes been intrigued with information that has presented itself from psychics that as far as I’m aware, they would not have known. On a recent investigation at Stanmer House in Brighton, a team member called Mandy, who has had this alleged ability since a child (as have her Grand Mother and Mother) gave some interesting information about a name she was getting. She is not a medium or anything like that and doesn’t shout about what she picks up on but this situation was interesting.

The original Stanmer Estate was bought by Henry Pelham of Lewes in 1713 but the present building was constructed by his son from 1722 onwards and stands in the vast Stanmer Park. When we first arrived at the location, Mandy was picked up on the name Edwyn Verrall and what was interesting about this was it related to a family connection with Mandy and a previous investigation in 2009 at Anne of Cleves House in nearby Lewes. On that investigation, we discovered that the Verrall family who lived in Lewes and the house for many years are Mandy’s Step Father’s ancestors. Edwyn Verrall was a previously unknown ancestor and it was later discovered he was a Great, Great Uncle who lived from 1809 to 1846. Mandy was also getting a woman’s name and explained it sounded like ‘Zieha’. The woman could be Kezia Pelham who lived at Stanmer House and married Edwin Verrall in the 19th Century. In the weeks that followed, further research and fresh documentation uncovered from Mandy’s family in the USA resulted in Edwyn and Kezia being added to the family tree.

She has said to me in the after that she was worried she might have read something somewhere and this planted the names in her mind but she is adamant she had no knowledge of these people prior to coming here. Indeed, when we were travelling down the M23 to Brighton that evening, she commented at where we were going as she thought we were going to a property in ‘Stanmor’ in Middlesex! I know Mandy well and know she is not interested in impressing people and for many years, didn’t even know she had this alleged ability and kept it very much to herself.

Psychic ability? Could be and I’m still open to the possibility?
