Our journey into the paranormal world reveals many intriguing and fascinating avenues that continue to perplex our rational thinking minds. For me, the area that interests me the most is claims of mediumship or psychic abilities.

I’m sure like many of you readers of Silent Voices, you have come into contact with a medium either in private or public readings, been on a ghost investigation or seen the various personalities doing their stuff on television. I have worked with many mediums with the alleged skill to contact people who are beyond physical death. Clairvoyance is of course, the ability to gain information about an object, person, location or physical event through means other than the known human senses.

I personally like to work with what I call ‘raw mediums’, people with no interest in working professionally and therefore have no agenda and nothing to prove. Now I’m not one of those folk who think mediumship is all an illusion or cold reading (although that does occur), far from it as I think there is something intriguing to study here as it’s quite an extraordinary claim to make and want to know what it is? Now I’m as psychic as a brick so people who say they can contact the afterlife really needs exploring especially those ‘under the radar’ who keep what happens to them very much to themselves.

Has there been any evidence for continued existence? Many people who have visited mediums may say there is commenting ‘Oh, they were spot on!’ etc. I have seen honest demonstrations where the medium has gone in with the right intent to help those communicate with passed loved ones but I’ve also witnessed the most outrageous examples of ridiculous alleged clairvoyance that needs to be seen to be believed. These incidents could fill an entire book (mmm, there’s a thought!) and it’s even more bizarre that people can be so gullible to lap it all up!

Now I have had many readings and can honestly say that I have very rarely been able to make a connection to what has been communicated. In doing research, I’ve attended a few ‘Development Classes’ where students learn how to contact spirit. On one occasion, I was paired off with a nice lady and she began to allegedly get this chap come through who was apparently communicating all this information that was relevant to me. I politely asked ‘Is this gentlemen actually talking to you right now?’ to which she replied ‘Yes’. So I ask the $64,000 question ‘What’s the gentlemen’s name then please?’….Interestingly there was no answer. I’ve also had folk say that ‘I’m too close minded’ which is a contradiction in terms as I am the most ‘open minded’ chap I know.

Now it may sound like I’m being a little critical but that’s not my intent here, I am just open to enquiry and really would like to know what is going on and are these claims genuine mediumship or wishful thinking in some cses, I’d be interested in you’re thoughts?
