EVP’S

On the first day I bought my Olympus WM-300, August 2006, did I ever think I would capture a class A EVP on my 1st attempt? And this is exactly what I did do, to my utter astonishment!

I had selected this recorder due to the easy way recordings could be transferred to the desktop via a USB port. I was set and very excited to get recording; that night would give me the opportunity as I was guiding a paranormal group around Pleasley Vale Mills, a known very active location, let the recordings begin!!!!

Before I take you into the details of that night I caught the EVP, a little about myself, I am 47 have been a member of Sutton Paranormal Group and after a short break with TAPIT (The Ashfield Paranormal Investigation Group), now currently attached to Haunted Events UK as Lead Investigator, mother and working full time, living in Nottinghamshire since 1983. At this time in 2006 I had only been investigating for just under a year, I now have 7 years experience under my belt, and had the honour of being able to investigate locations such as Annesley Hall, Clifton Hall and The Galleries of Justice plus many more! Pleasley Vale is a place close to my heart where I have investigated many times and helped on events there, witnessing many strange things, that is another story though!

On this particular night I had been asked with 2 colleagues from SPG to help with looking after a paranormal group who were to run their own investigation, the aim initially was to take some recordings in areas away from them, but we were invited to join them on floor 1.
Floor 1 is about the only area that is the nearest to how the Mill would have been in its height as a cotton mill, the rest of the building has been renovated and converted to office space. As you leave the lift a short walk takes you up a small slope to an area outside the large machine room, on this night it was locked but a small glass window in the door you could see the room with its large columns. You could imagine all the noise from the many machines that would have been in there and the hustle and bustle of all the operators rushing around ensuring that production was maintained. This would have also been where many grisly accidents would have occurred, especially to children working in the room.

It was decided that the team would hold a vigil in hallway area of floor 1. The team setup their night vision cameras and equipment, I set my recorder to record and set it on the window ledge, to avoid any interference from me holding it. I was the nearest to the recorder approximately 5 foot, the rest of the team were to the left of me and in front, no one went into the recorder area during the total 34 minute recording. The vigil began. During the vigil no obvious activity detected apart from some equipment being dropped by one of the team.
 
I eagerly downloaded the recordings taken that night and a couple of days later got the headphones on and listened intently, every little scrape, noise I thought “EVP, EVP” but at 6 minutes into the recording a clear male voice says "Get out of here!", you can imagine, I replayed this over and over again, the only people that were talking during that time was the medium of a team. The outstanding fact is at 10 minutes into the recording the medium in the room clearly states there is a male in the room who does not like women and is telling us to get out!

Unbeknown at the time I had already captured this. The voice sounded of the 'queens speech' clearly pronunciated, a class A EVP!

Did someone whisper? Definitely not! Was there any other reason for this? All the people in the location were accounted for. I was the nearest to the recorder which had been placed on the window sill to prevent any interference from holding it. I was approximately 5 feet away and then the next person was about 2 feet away from me , other than that no one else was near it!

I have questioned why me, why my recorder, was it this spirit so intent on making himself known to us he was able to draw on energies in the room and be able to leave an audible response? So many questions!

'EVP' or electronic voice phenomena has been actively researched in many forms since 1920. Many enthusiasts engage in experiments constantly asking why, how? I personally believe that spirits are on a much higher vibration to where we are on this plane, at that precise time the factors all come together to be able to hear a spirit voice, like a radio being tuned in!

EVP's are a real interest of mine and I am constantly learning about new techniques, the use of 'white noise', ghost boxes, and other programs that aid in the capture of EVP's.

I often liaise with friends in the US who often capture EVP's and share their findings, one being a capture in a bar where a voice in an US accent shouts out "What ya gonna hav?" and quite clearly in an American accent, there were no reactions from the investigators at the time of the recording, this was only heard on the review of recordings after the investigation, (permission has been given to share this EVP).

There are 3 main types of EVP's:-

Class A - clearly audible without the use of any amplification etc - everyone agrees to the content
Class B - heard with the aid of headphones - but not everyone can agree on content
Class C - nobody able to agree to the content, regardless of the filtering etc

Remember the protocols for EVP work, keep detailed records of location, record who present also good to record voices of people who present for identification purposes, speak clearlWebsite: www.hauntedeventsuk.comy, should you whisper it could be mistaken for a capture! Record keeping is very important as when this is analyzed you need to be able to recall every detail to discount the obvious, then when all done you can say you have a good capture.
One word of warning if conducting experiments treat spirit with respect and maybe they will talk back!
