Hello everyone June has certainly been a wet month and I hope it hasn’t dampened your spirits!!

On a positive sunnier note our Spookfest event at Dudley Castle was certainly spooktacular and somebody must have been smiling down on us as the weather was fantastic and it was overwhelming to see over a 1000 of you joining us in the beautiful courtyard of Dudley Castle for the show.

June saw Compass Paranormal Events returning to our favourite locations and investigated 3 new ones including Portsmouth’s D Day tunnel which if you liked Kelvedon Bunker is one to attend in the future we are returning on the 8th September

Kershaw house in Halifax where we all enjoyed a fabulous meal and a really intriguing investigation.

And finally Great Fulford Hall which is completely lost in the Devon countryside. Great Fulford is private home with a fabulous family history and a great location for our team and guests.

We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to be allowed to investigate all our locations especially those that are privately owned steeped in fabulous history having tales that intrigue us all. So why not join us and have a night out with a difference and walk in the footsteps of those that have lived, loved, and died in the building or one that has long since been destroyed.

Yesterdays World

From the outside of this plain building, Yesterday’s World in Battle, near Hastings on the 3rd of September 2011, looks nothing out of the ordinary. From the outset it’s just a toy shop that you might find down any local High Street. However, you couldn't be more mistaken. Once you have walked through the toy shop you are met with a huge set of old fashioned theatre doors that, once walked through, transport you back in time as you are welcomed by a life size horse drawn carriage and thousands upon thousands of artefacts displayed cleverly in shop windows from the years gone by, an underground street, even a James Bond theme shop thrown in for good measure, and so, so, much more! It is so tempting to keep on the lights for a change just to have a good nose around!
 
As the guests started to arrive and take in their surroundings, it was hard not to notice a sense of tension building and a foreboding feeling of what this location was going to offer. Before the southern team had even entered the building earlier on that evening, two staff members saw a figure standing in a window, this was before the location had been opened to us, therefore I can verify that there was absolutely no- one in there.
 

After a short introduction from the team to the guests we all set off for the Medium Walk around. Our first location started in the rear building, the newer of the 2 buildings. We headed upstairs to a room known as the Royal room as it is filled with Royal regalia. A few of the guests reported hearing noises and ongoing mumblings of conversations whilst no- one was making any sound. A number of guests saw what they described as shadowed figure at the other end of the room in the corner. A couple of guests and a staff member went to investigate and they all heard what seemed to be somebody whispering to them, but they could not quite make out what was being said. Another guest, with hearing enhancers on, heard a door slam and a high pitched scream. Guests also tried table tipping which proved to be very effective and the table started to vibrate and rock from side to side in response to questions. A team member asked Mario, our Southern team Medium, if he was picking up the name of a man who was allegedly haunting this particular area. Mario gave the name of this person and immediately all of the guest’s K2’s lit up to red.

We then exited the Royal room and stood on the staircase, whilst calling out, some of our guests reported hearing what sounded like a baby cry which tied in with what Mario was picking up from a pram situated at the top of the stair well. The guests and team then headed down to the ground floor. A team member sat in a chair and immediately stood straight up. On doing so she asked two female guests to sit in the chair without giving them the reason as to why she wouldn't sit there. Both female guests felt uncomfortable in the chair and didn't sit there for very long. The female guests reported feeling uneasy and one felt very sick. It is in this area that Mario sensed a group of men who liked to drink, on reviewing the EVP recordings after the investigation; a chinking of glasses is heard on the EVP recording that was not heard at that time.
 
We then headed into the older building, which dates back to the early 1400’s. Upon entering this area, many of the guests reported feeling sick and smelling strange smells. Some of the guests reported having their trousers tugged and pulled as if a mischievous child was present. It was also reported by guests, that some were even being poked in the back. We ventured into the crosswalk and gathered outside the chemist shop, our Medium picked up on a “hag” like spirit and immediately two members of staff and a couple of guests saw a reflection of someone moving, in the glass of the shop opposite. I can confirm that no-one was moving in this area at the time the reflection was seen. On entering the chemists shop, a guest recorded the temperature at 21 Celsius. On leaving the chemist the guest reported a 10 degree temperature rise in as little as 5 minutes, moments later the guest re-took the temperature again and reported it back to 20 Celsius. This is a 9 degree rise and a 10 degree drop within 10 minutes. A few guests reported hearing what sounded like children running above them. Again, I can confirm the whereabouts of all staff and guests at this particular time and no-one was above us. Some of our guests started to feel unwell, suffering from nausea to headaches. One of the guests started calling out and asked a spirit to communicate by tapping. In doing this, all of our guests heard tapping sounds repeated back as if it was tapping on the glass window of one of the shops. A couple of guests also reported seeing a shadow figure in the doorway. We then headed up to the attic area, some of the guests felt a happy presence of children in this room. After a short while most of our guests felt that the energy had changed and that there was now an uncomfortable feeling in the space. Guests reported hearing more taps, bangs and several of the K2 meters lit up.
 
After a short break we divided into two groups. Group 2 started out in the front of the building. On entering the war room a number of guests reported that they had seen a shadow of a man in the doorway to the sweet shop. This made the guests feel very uncomfortable and they immediately left that area. The guests headed up to the attic area, where children had been felt earlier on in the Medium walk around. The guests felt compelled to sit crossed legged on the floor in child like manner, On doing so; the guests felt as if a stern man had walked into the area. One of the guests became very emotional at this point. The guests also had a go with table tipping with some interesting results.

Group 2 also felt drawn to the sweet shop. They used the Ouija board in the sweet shop and communicated with a small boy who gave them a lot of information about his mother and father and his life back in the 1800's, The initial SJR also came through on the Ouija board. Group 1 guests chose to investigate the main area of building 2, where the horse and cart is situated. Just after the break Kim, a member of Yesterdays World’s staff, had turned the lights off, she had noticed that the emergency lights had stayed on. She tried to find an explanation as to why this had happened but was unable to confirm the reason. This still remains a mystery. The guests called out to the spirits and we had lots of k2 activity throughout the two vigils. Guests also heard clinking sounds from the kitchen area which, when investigated, the noises strangely stopped. Some guests and a member of staff reported seeing orbs on the night vision goggles. Guests in group 2 also experienced similar activity. One guest reported a shadowy figure in the corner of the room and communicated via glass work with a female spirit in the kitchen area, another guest saw the spirit of a cat whilst some of the other guests communicated with a man on the Ouija board. We then ventured back to the Royal room where the guests tried their hand at table tipping. The table appeared to be moving from one side of the room to another in a play like manner whilst communicating with a boy spirit.
 
The team and guests then re-grouped and investigated the streets. Most of the guests on entering this area felt quite nervous and one guest had to move as she felt very uncomfortable. Noises and whistles were heard by several guests and the feeling was very oppressive.
 
We ended the night with a human pendulum. A male spirit, who seamed quite happy to communicate with us, chose one of the guests to be the pendulum. Once again. Lots of k2 activity was experienced during the human pendulum and the guest, who was chosen, became extremely heavy towards the end of the experiment.
 
On several occasions during the night’s investigations, a lot of our equipment went flat and batteries were drained extremely quickly although all new batteries had been fitted prior to the night’s investigation had commenced.

All in all, Yesterdays World proved to be a great night and I know the guests and the southern team, went away very happy with the results and I, for one, am certainly looking forward to re-visiting this amazing location to see what more it can give us.
