Diary of a Medium

Since this is my first ‘Diary of a Medium’ I thought I would write what I have been up to over the past 2 years since quitting the television show ‘Most Haunted’.

Where do I start? I had just quit what was arguably the most successful paranormal TV show in the World in the most controversial way imaginable. I had just said the show was (in my opinion) not as real as it was being made to look. My Facebook was going wild with questions and messages of support. I really didn’t know what way to turn. What I have never spoke publically about until this day was the fact that I refused to sell my story to the biggest Sunday Newspaper in the UK. I didn’t quit to boost my profile, so knew that selling my story would go against everything I believed in. Had I made the right choices? I have to truly say … YES. I wouldn’t change a thing … what a journey it has been.

The following are exerts from my own personal diary:

“2 days now since I released my statement and the World seems to have gone mad … I don’t understand how he could react in this way over a simple statement that doesn’t actually accuse anyone of anything … thank God for my Family and my Facebook Family, as I don’t know what I would have done without them…”

“I’m starting to really dread switching on my beloved Facebook on now … What is going to happen next... He is using his little pets to do his dirty work for him … they aren’t intelligent (or have enough self-respect) to tell him to do it himself …”

“I can now feel all of this starting to affect me … I feel like I am having a nervous breakdown … My God have I just quit a Cult?... Carole-Anne (my Fiancée) has now banned me from my computer. She can see how it is affecting my mental health.”

As you can see the weeks after leaving Most Haunted were amongst the worst of my life. However, they definitely made me a far stronger person. One thing that certainly did touch me throughout the time was the love I received from my family, fans and friends. I had no idea such love existed and that is the reason I will never ever take any of them for granted. They are the most special and wonderful bunch of people in the World.

Mary Kings Close, Edinburgh, Scotland
This Event was my first since leaving the show and I don’t mind admitting now I was terrified. The way things had blown up on-line left me wondering would some-one turn up who didn’t like me to try and sabotage the Event. I know that sounds extreme and very paranoid but it was the way my head had gone.
I arrived and met up with my former Most Haunted colleague Dr Ciaran O’Keefe who was also doing an event in Edinburgh that night. That was a lovely meeting and helped bring the old Chris back … a lot more than my old Mucker will ever know.

The time came to go and meet the public and my legs were like jelly. Loads of questions were running through my head. Would they hate me? Would they have even know who I was? I walked out and was met by lots of smiling faces … I was so happy. I met many people that night & went on to have a great event and knew that it had all been worth it.

My own Events Company
I decided to set up my own Events Company with a Paranormal Investigator and over the next Year watched it go from strength to strength and I’m proud to say that it never made a loss and after every event was met with lots of e-mails praising how the night was run.

We travelled the length and breadth of the country, visiting from manor houses to Castles. We had fun whilst driving to the Events as some of the You Tube Clips will show. In fact we never once stayed in a Hotel and travelled through the night (a couple of hours in the car in the between) arriving home exhausted but happy. As I’m sure you can tell from this article I will always regard this little venture with very fond memories. I have to say that I enjoyed every single one of those Events and always looked forward to them weeks before they arrived. However, after a year we felt that it was time to say good-bye to the company as it was beginning to feel like work and not the hobby we had envisaged.

Psychic and Science
I had spent the 2 years doing Events with both my own Events Company and other Events Companies and knew that I had to return to doing what I love doing … working on stage or television. However, in saying this I knew that it had to be the right offer. I had been burnt in the past with companies claiming to be able to have lots of contacts and experience etc. (both in television and theatre). In fact I was now at the point were I was refusing offers left, right and centre. I had decided that I could trust no-one but myself.

In January this year I was approached about taking part in a new Theatre show called ‘Psychic and Science’, which I was told was going to be a great mix of spiritualism and scepticism. I’ll be honest, at this point I was about to say no (out of habit) until they mentioned I would be working with a man I have a lot of respect for. Former Most Haunted Paranormal Historian Richard Felix was to be starring on with stage with me … I was sold!

Psychic and Science, Skegness
Here we were … the debut show for Psychic and Science and there was a mix of nervousness and excitement running through myself, Richard, Denise Mott and the Host Paul Gannon. We had done all of our rehearsals and knew roughly what we were doing (more down to our experience in the field than anything else) … but … it was a show WITHOUT a script … what if nothing happened … what if we said the wrong thing? However, we had nothing to worry about as the show went without any major hitches.

What have I personally got from Psychic and Science? I have got my appetite back again for being on stage and plan to do a lot more theatre work next year. I am even considering a few solo shows around the UK.

From our first show in Skegness to our last show (of this year) in Inverness I am proud to say that we improved show upon show. My fiancée Carole-Anne who was at an early show was blown away by how professional and slick the Inverness show was.

I would like to make a return to television again and Psychic and Science has now got me hungry again … so keep an eye out guys :-)

This has been a little article to bring you up to date about what I have done over the past 2 years and is a pre-cursor to my ‘Diary of a Medium’, which will be written more in a diary style.

I would just like to point out here that it may seem as though I was having a dig at Most Haunted at the beginning of this article, however, those were merely quotes from my diary. My resignation was never meant to cause so much upheaval. I wanted to leave and be given the opportunity to get on with my own life. I am now being given this luxury.

I am looking forward to 2012 very much and have many projects in the pipe-line and can’t wait to see them come to fruition. As long as I have my Family, friends and Facebook Family beside me I’ll be happy :-)
