Silent Voices Meets Chris Conway

Chris Conway is nationally acclaimed as one of Britain’s favorite Mediums. His friendly, funny and down to earth approach to
communicating with Spirit has seen his popularity increase both with the General Public and many in  the Paranormal Industry.
Chris has appeared on numerous TV shows and News programs including ‘Most Haunted’ (37 Episodes) and ‘Border News’.
Chris has just completed a hugely successful UK wide Theatre Tour called ‘Psychic and Science’
Chris has also been appearing at haunted locations throughout the UK as Special Guest Medium and will continue to do so
next year. Chris has also become a published author with the release of two books, the highly praised,  ‘Ghost Hunting,
the Spiritual Way’ and the soon to be released ‘Energy, and how to make it work for you’.
Chris is currently working on a third title, which will be released next year.

Chris, you say that you felt the connection to the Spirit World from the age of 6, what was your first experience and how did you realise that you were communicating with the Spirit World?

It was first noticed at about the age of 6 but it has been there for as long as I can remember. When I was 6 my parents heard me speaking to someone in my bedroom and came in to see who was there and found this strange little boy sitting talking to (what they thought was) no-one. They asked who I was speaking to and I gave a strange sounding name and also mentioned an old lady. AS you can imagine they laughed it off between them. A few days later speaking to an elderly neighbour about my so called ‘invisible friends’ she chuckled, until they mentioned the strange sounding name ... it was the nickname of an elderly gentleman who once lived there ... the description of the old lady was identical to his wife. From then on they started to notice other strange occurrences over the years.

You also say that you felt you had to keep your ability secret, why was that?

I felt the need to keep my ability hidden as I was terrified of being bullied about it. I tried to tell my best friend when I was about 13 and the look of horror on his face made me quickly turn it into a joke. I then tried again a while later but got the same response. It wasn’t until I reached my early 20’s that I met someone who was involved in the paranormal world that I felt comfortable speaking about myself.

Is there any history of Mediumship or Psychic ability in your family? 

There has been a few of my ancestors who apparently had some sort of ‘psychic ability’ but to be honest it isn’t something I look into too much. I guess because I have always had this ability I have never thought of it as anything to get excited about.

Did you ever find it difficult as a child because you felt different or saw or heard things that you realised other people didn’t?

To be honest as a very young child I assumed that EVERY child saw and heard the same things as myself. As I explained earlier it wasn’t until I got a bit older that I realised that this wasn’t a gift that everyone got to enjoy. After I realised? It was hell on earth.

You say that you are hoping that modern technology will facilitate your quest to prove the existence of ghosts, what technology do you have at your disposal? Is it new technology? What does it measure?

The modern technology I talk about is the technology that my friends in the scientific side of things use. To be honest I am terrible with technology (as anyone who knows me will tell you), which is why I work well in a partnership with someone from a scientific or technological background.

Over the last 100 years do you think investigating has changed/altered? Are we trying new experiments or just altered versions of old ones?

Honestly? I feel we haven’t come forward one little bit. We have come up with fancier words and more impressive gadgets but still we are clutching at straws as far as proof go’s. I feel that this is the way it is meant to be. There has never been a gadget created for ghost hunting as far as I’m aware ... the gadgets we use were invented for other purposes such as the EMF meter etc.

You say that you’re given the opportunity to investigate away from the normal locations; can you tell us how you got this opportunity and why it’s special?

This was due to the fact that as a group it was more affordable to hire locations. Then when I became the resident medium for the television show Most Haunted it opened up a whole new kind of location to me as they had a far bigger budget than my group could afford. It’s special as I feel the more a location is investigated the
less activity we tend to get. It is almost as if the energy has been drained from the battery.

Is there anywhere in the world you would like to investigate and why? 

That is easy ... Alcatraz :-) It has housed so much nasty energy over the years and some of that energy must have stayed around.

If you could communicate with anyone, who would it be and why? 

Good question indeed :-) I think it would have to be anyone in this world who has been in the terrible place where they have committed suicide. I would like to find out more about what went through their minds just before it. That may sound wrong but I feel it would help benefit man-kind in the long run as too many people slip through the net.

In your view what would you say are the positives and negatives of the increased media exposure to spiritualism in general ... and do you think the media portray the correct message and knowledge?

I feel that the exposed media exposure is good and bad. Good as in the fact it has created a much wider thirst for knowledge on the subject. Bad in the fact that so many fraudulent mediums are trying to cash in on the exposure. I feel Mediumship is something that is given to you, not the other way around. I also believe that we should not be getting rich on the back of it.

You do a lot of charity work, do you have particular favourite charities, if so what are they? 

I am just glad that I am in a position to help so many charities. When I was offered a TV role I made the decision that I would now work a lot more on charity. My favourites are Anthony Nolan and Shelter. However, I think all charities are fantastic as long as the people running them are not earning huge salaries from what should be the charity pot.

You already have a few books on the market, have you any plans to release any more books? 

Yes I have just released my new book called ‘Energy and how to make it work for you’. I am still writing another which hopefully should be released this year.

Since you left the TV show Most Haunted, you have been in popular demand and have many projects underway, Psychic & Science theatre Tour, Paranormal Egypt, Ghost hunting with various Event Companies, your own private Ghost Hunts for the public, Online Spiritual Supermarket and Online tarot Lessons, How do you fit in all this work and is you family understanding of how busy you are? 

Good question :-) They are used to it now and it stops me getting under their feet :-) I can be quite clumsy so it keeps me in my office or out in the field :-) How do I fit it in? Easily as it is my passion in life :-)

Although you are very busy you also take the time to interact via facebook and at events with you fans, is this important to you as you genuinely seem to enjoy doing so? 

My fans, facebook family and friends mean the world to me. I feel that this interaction is so important as it is a two way street. When I feel low they lift me up and when they feel low and contact me I try to do the same. When we feel happy ... the world smiles :-)

Work and personally, what would you like for the future?

I would like to return to television if the right project came along and I am also looking into doing a couple of theatre shows this year. I am also now a regular columnist in your fine magazine. Psychic and Science starts once again in February and I have many events booked already ... as well as all of the above you listed.
