Kunzite By Hazel Raven
On our small fragile planet we are being bombarded daily with potent and increasingly high frequency new energies from our solar system and beyond. These high frequency energies stimulate our evolutionary potential. This influx of 'light' energy can cause us to feel unbalanced or overwhelmed, which is why I am so often asked about which crystal to use or wear for not only protection but feelings of security in our ever changing world. How do we stay heart centred, allowing the energies of love - self-love, interpersonal love, love for humanity, animals, plants, minerals - all that is. So in this month's article I am going to look at a crystal that not only calms the anahata (heart chakra) but works with the human emotions at this time of human evolution on Earth. If you allow it, Kunzite will wrap you in a warm blanket of worthiness and compassion. It will also help you anchor the energies of love and light into this dimension daily.
Kunzite
Kunzite is a pink-to-lilac colored gemstone, a variety of Spodumene with the color coming from minor to trace amounts of manganese. Some kunzite used for gemstones has been heated to enhance its color. It is also frequently irradiated to enhance the color. Many kunzites fade when exposed to sunlight. Kunzite has two distinct properties: "phosphorescence" where Kunzite, is observed to glow in a darkened room after it has been exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays and "pleochroism", showing different colours when viewed from different directions. Kunzite displays raspberry pinks, cool lavenders, frosty lilacs and warm fuchsias.
Crystal system monoclinic and hardness 6.5 to 7.5.
History: Kunzite was discovered in 1902, and was named after G. F. Kunz, Tiffany & Co's chief jeweler at the time, and a noted mineralogist. It has been found in Brazil, USA, Canada, CIS, Mexico, Sweden, Western Australia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Kunzite is often set into sophisticated and elegant jewellery. One notable example of kunzite used in jewellery is in the Russian Palmette tiara and necklace worn by the Duchess of Gloucester.
Keywords: Heart Opener
Angel: Shekinah (The Eternal Shekinat El)
Kunzite carries the pale pink to lilac ray of spiritual love - the true love of a mother for her child - which is always unconditional and bypasses the ego-centred love of the self. Kunzite displays the qualities of Shekinah, the Queen of Heaven, who is also called the angel of deliverance. The Shekinah is the feminine side of Archangel Metatron or the female manifestation of God in man, the divine in-dwelling. She is also called the 'Bride of the Lord'. In the New Testament sense, the Shekinah is the glory emanating from God.
Initiation: Attunement to Universal love.
Physical: Kunzite works on the nervous system and has been used to ease panic attacks. It eases stress and supports the parasympathetic nervous system.
Emotional: Kunzite cleanses and protects the heart chakra. This allows the emotions of the innermost heart to be healed. It supports new beginnings and facilitates deep healing. Reminding us that change brings positive opportunities to release inner resistance.
"The colour pink causes the brain to send signals that reduce the secretion of adrenalin, reducing the heart rate and consequently dissipating states of extreme excitement such as anger" Science Digest, 1980
Mentally: Kunzite allows us to feel safe and nurtured which helps us discover who we truly are and why we are here. This beautiful crystal also eases depression and all manic disorders.
Psychologically: Enhances self-esteem (worthiness). Brings joy as it activates the in-dwelling spirit of God which leads us out of the shadowland of illusion towards wholeness and unity.
Spiritual: Aids meditation by creating a sacred space, allowing us to connect to the energy of Divine love.
Magic: Counteracts aggression.
Affirmation: "I now open my heart to receive Divine love"
Crystal Placement: By placing Kunzite on our heart chakra during meditation we can bring 'true healing' on all levels of our being. Kunzite allows us to be 'ourselves' regardless of all outside influences, physical restriction and emotional resistance. Our in-dwelling divinity, the Shekinah, is only awaiting our call; as the divine mother she waits with patience in the sure knowledge that one day we shall awaken from our trance state and seek bliss.
Cleansing: Hold the stone under running water for several minutes and visualise imbalances flowing away. Then put in the sunlight to dry.
Shekinah (Shekinat El)
Shekinah is derived from the Hebrew verb שכן. In Biblical Hebrew the word means literally to settle, inhabit, or dwell. Some Christian theologians have connected the concept of Shekhinah to the Greek term "Parousia", "presence" "arrival," which is used in the New Testament in a similar way for "Divine Presence". The Shekinah is held by some to represent the feminine attributes of the presence of God (shekhinah being a feminine word in Hebrew), based especially on readings of the Talmud.
The Talmud reports that the Shekinah is what caused prophets to prophesy and King David to compose his Psalms. The Shekinah manifests itself as a form of joy, connected with prophecy, creativity and Divine bliss.
In the cabala, she is the 10th sephira Malkuth, otherwise the Queen. The creation of the world was, according to the Zohar the work of the Shekinah. The Shekinah has been identified with the Holy Ghost.
